About the Lafayette Metropolitan Expressway Commission
Commission History
The Lafayette Metropolitan Expressway Commission (LMEC) was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 2003 under Act 893 to plan, finance, construct, and operate a regional loop transportation facility serving the Lafayette region. The commission functions in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the Federal Highway Administration, and local governing bodies.
Commissioners
The LMEC is comprised of thirteen (13) directors who serve on a voluntary basis. Members are appointed by governing bodies and organizations in Lafayette, Vermilion, and Iberia parishes:
- Two members are appointed by the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA).
- Two members are appointed by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
- Two members are appointed by One Acadiana.
- The Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) appoints two members. One of the LA DOTD appointees must be the District 3 (Lafayette region) engineer.
- One member is appointed by the Chief Executive Officer of the incorporated areas of Lafayette Parish other than the City of Lafayette.
- One member is appointed by the Lafayette Consolidated Government City-Parish President.
- One member is appointed by the Lafayette Consolidated Government City-Parish Council.
- One member is appointed by the Vermilion Parish Police Jury President.
- One member is appointed by the Iberia Parish President.
